What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a treatment designed to help individuals of all ages and abilities to restore, maintain and maximize their mobility, function and well-being. Physiotherapists are highly trained professionals who specialize in rehabilitation, injury prevention and health and fitness. They are committed to helping patients reach their individual goals, and to this end, they actively involve their patients in their own recovery.
Physiotherapy can be beneficial for people with a range of conditions and can be combined with other treatments. It can be used to treat acute and chronic injuries, as well as conditions such as arthritis, back pain, neck pain, and sports injuries. It can also be used to help people recover from surgery, such as a hip replacement, or from a major event, such as a heart attack or stroke.
If you are planning to use health insurance to pay for physiotherapy, make sure that the physiotherapist you choose is covered by your insurance company. This will ensure that your insurance benefits are honored and that you do not have to pay the full cost of treatment out of pocket. It is also important to remember that the cost of physiotherapy can vary depending on the type of treatment and the number of sessions required.

What to Expect on Your First Visit
On your first visit with our physiotherapist, it is important to come prepared with any relevant medical information, such as X-rays, MRIs or any other medical reports. It is a good idea to arrive at the clinic 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete the intake forms. These forms will provide the physiotherapist with important information to help in the assessment and treatment process.
Once the forms have been completed, you will be assessed by the therapist in order to determine the most appropriate and effective treatment approach. This assessment will include a physical examination, range of motion tests, strength tests, and a gait analysis.
On your first physiotherapy treatment day, it is important to be prepared for at least 1 hour of treatment. Depending on your specific diagnosis, your therapist may use a variety of treatments such as hot packs, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, and exercise. Your therapist will typically guide you through some specific exercises that should be done while at the clinic as well as at home.
It is normal to feel some aggravation of symptoms after your first treatment as part of the assessment process, as well as starting new exercises. Don’t let this put you off. Keep at it. Give your therapist constant feedback on how you are responding to the treatments, as this will help them to adjust your treatment plan accordingly. You also should make sure to ask any questions you may have regarding your treatment plan and any home exercises you are required to do.
